Your First Child

When I was 30, just a mere 6 years ago, I never imagined the joy that awaited me when my Wife and I had our first child. Gone now are the days of carelessness and reckless actions that often were part of my daily routine. It is strange how the birth of a child can completely and immediately change the way a man thinks. As I sat in the post delivery room with my Wife by my side cradling my newborn Son, whose head was not much bigger than my own hand, I saw a completely new and untainted version of myself. From that day forward every action, every thought, and all other things that would generally go unnoticed have a deeper meaning for me. Its just the little things like religiously wearing my seat belt while driving, even if it is just to the corner store. Maybe being just a little more safety conscious at work. Every day we are all faced with decisions and actions that could, in the blink of an eye, change our lives forever and possibly leave our loved ones without the opportunity to have us around. I am writing this tonight because after 5 years of pure delight and utter enjoyment of having a Son in my life, I could not imagine my life without him now. As I look into his wonderfully bright, intelligent, knowledge seeking eyes, I see little parts of myself and just cant bear the thought of my boy growing up without his Daddy. With all that said, he as well as my Wife have turned into my complete world and I will do whatever necessary to keep that world flourishing. Rick
